Functional Requirement Document [FRD] - Component, Structure, and Template

FRD is a formal document that specifies functional requirements of an application. It is similar to that of a contract as their objective is same. Through this document, the developers agree to offer the specified capabilities. The customer accepts to determine the product as a satisfied one when the product meets the specified capabilities as described in the FRD. 

FRD document consists of details including overview of the system, purpose of the system, scope, background describing the problem statement and how the system provides the result along with references. In addition, assumptions, constraints are also included. 

Structure of FRD includes as follows:
1. Introduction - Purpose/Intended Use, Scope, Background, References, Assumptions and Constraints, and Document Overview
2. Methodology - Describes the overall approach in FRD
3. Functional Requirements - Context, User Requirements, Data Flow diagrams, Logical Data/Data Dictionary
4. Other Requirements - Interface Requirements, Data Conversion Requirements, Hardware/Software Requirements, and Operational Requirements
